EUGENE Management Committee Meeting Istanbul, March 2010


The second meeting of the Management Committee of the EUGENE network was hosted by the Technical University of Istanbul. The status of the project was presented and feedback and ideas were shared between the members in order to improve the work and the outcomes of the network. The agenda of events and milestones for the next year were settled as well. A fruitful year is foreseen for the EUGENE network.



EUR-ACE SPREAD - Mid term conference "Engineering Education and Profession in Europe: Ensuring Quality and Transparency" Istanbul, March 2010


The EUR-ACE Framework Standards, maintained by the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE), provide the basis for the award of a common quality label (EUR- ACE label) to accredited engineering programmes.

In this Conference the results so far obtained by the project and the envisaged future developments of the EUR-ACE system were presented to a wide audience, including Academics, Higher Education Institution officials, public Authorities, industrialists etc.

In the Round Table concerning "The added value of EUR-ACE accreditation", BEST has commented on the direct benefits of accreditation for fresh graduates and provided student ideas for this field.



EUGENE Line E Meeting Brussels, February 2010


The first meeting of Line E of the EUGENE network, focusing on the attractiveness of the engineering in Europe, took place at the end of February in Brussels. 14 participants from various EUGENE member organisations did a brainstorming on how to make engineering more attractive and planned the activity of the Line for this year.



StartPro Meeting Brussels, February 2010


On the 24th of February 2010, StartPro organised the last meeting for the topic of “Intrapreneurship - Young Professionals Starting Innovation”. BEST participated in the discussions and settled the details for the future collaboration with EuroCadres.



EUGENE Kick-Off Meeting Florence, November 2009


Representatives of most of the members of the EUGENE Academic Network (more than 70 universities and educational institutions) gathered in Florence for the official start of the project. The participants were presented the main objectives of the network and were offered different opportunities to get involved and to improve the engineering education field in Europe via EUGENE. BEST has presented the students' perspective in a panel session on the topic "Focusing on cultural aspects in engineering: from a knowledge society to a wisdom society".



EU-VIP Kick-Off Meeting Leuven, November 2009


The conference took place during 18th and 19th of November at the EuroPace headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. The role of BEST in project is to organise two symposiums: by end of August 2010 and in 2011.The aim of EU-VIP (Enterprise-University Virtual Placements) is enhance the quality, efficiency and impact of international work placements by focusing on how to organise these placements, thereby boosting interaction between HEIs and enterprises using the advantages of the newest technologies.



EUGENE Management Committee Meeting Bonn, November 2009


BEST is one of the biggest partner organisations of the EUGENE Academic Network (EUropean and Global ENgineering Education) and the only student organisation within the network. BEST is a member of the Management Committee of the project and has been represented in the first meeting of the EUGENE Management Committee of EUGENE at the beginning of November. In this meeting the main directions for the project were designed along with the final touches for the kick-off meeting of the network.



ESTIA-Earth 1st Expert Meeting Bucharest, November 2009


The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the development of the Curriculum for a new Specialized Master Program for Women. BEST is a partner of ESTIA-Earth and was present at the event as the only student organisation involved in it.



ERABEE 4th Workshop Valletta, November 2009


During the event in Malta, topics like Rare Knowledge and Research during the first two cycles were discussed for Biosystems Engineering in Europe. BEST presented the paper “The Importance of Students in the Nowadays' Development of Technology and Education”, highlighting its contribution to the field.



StartPro Conference Brussels, September 2009


As a possible partner organisation of StartPro Project, BEST was invited to attend the conference “Intrapreneurship - Young Professionals Starting Innovation”, organised by EuroCadres, in order to disseminate and also collect ideas for the project. The conference took place in September, 28-29, 2009 at the EuroCadres Headquarters in Brussels.



SEFI Annual Conference Rotterdam, July 2009


“Attracting Students in Engineering - Engineering is Fun” was this year’s topic for SEFI Annual Conference that was held in Roterdam in July, 1-4, 2009. For this event, BEST submitted the article “Attractiveness of young people to engineering and Student Career Guidance”, based on the outcomes of the Symposium on Education (organised by the Local BEST Group Iasi). The presentation delivered at the conference can be found in the following link.



IFEES Global Education Summit St. Petersburg, May 2009


The Third IFEES Global Engineering Education Summit was held in May, 18-23, 2009 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The topic of the event was "Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Engineering Education: Roadmap for Excellence" and BEST was present here as member of IFEES.



ERABEE 3rd Workshop Upssala, May 2009


The 3rd Workshop organised by ERABEE was related to research during PhD. studies in the Biosystems Engineering field. BEST was there in order to present its involvement in engineering education, the Events on Education it organises and its partners.



TREE-diss 3rd Regional Conference Thessaloniki, August 2008


This conference took place on 29th of August 2008 at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece, and had the purpose of disseminating the results of the thematic network so far. It was also a joint event in cooperation with EUR-ACE. BEST was present there as TREE, TREE-diss partner (See past projects).



SEFI Annual Conference Aalborg, July 2008


The 2008 SEFI Annual Conference took place under the topic of “Quality Assessment, Employability and Innovation”. For this event, BEST presented the paper “A students’ viewpoint of Project Based Learning”, which is based on outcomes and experiences from the BACo organised by the Local Group Bucharest in February 2008.



ERABEE 2nd Workshop Madrid, April 2008


BEST was invited to attend the ERABEE workshop in Madrid in April, 3-4, 2008. The main goal of the event was to define the emerging Biosystems Engineering Discipline in Europe. BEST presented its services in complementary education and educational involvement.



TREE-diss 1st Regional Conference Dipoli, March 2008


The conference took place at TKK Dipoli in Finnland and it was organised by the TREE-diss with the purpose of disseminating the results of the thematic network and bringing together industry and academia to work. BEST was present at the event as TREE and TREE-diss partner.



SEFI 2nd Deans Conference Berlin, February 2008


In February 2008, SEFI organised in Berlin the second conference for the Deans of European universities. BEST was mentioned in two presentations and it submitted an article about "Students viewpoint on Life Long Learning programs", that was based on BEST Events on Education.
